A team vs Kettering 3rd XV

A team vs Kettering 3rd XV

Matt Armstrong24 Sep 2012 - 11:50

A team win their first league game of the season

On Saturday Wellingborough A team played Kettering 3rd XV (plus a couple of Boro lads) at home in conditions that were more reminiscent of summer rather than early autumn.

The As gave a couple of A team debuts to Craig Marshall and Mark Bartlem (Taff) and for the first time this season could field the majority of A team players from last season. Kettering turned up minus a couple of players but we kindly helped them out once we ran in the first try straight from kick off.

The first half was one way traffic with the A team breaking through tackles at speed on a regular basis, Andy Seaton scored the first try and this was quickly followed up by tries from Craig Marshall and one made by the front row breaking from deep which was rounded off by Dave Morgan. Kettering were made to live off scraps of possession but at one point their massive back, Joel Dyer managed to bowl Andy Seaton as they tried to get back into the game. The first ended with a series of scores from the A team with the scores nearly touching 50 points.

For the second half a couple of changes were made with Joel Dyer switching back to Boro to replace the impressive Matt Armstrong! The half started off much like the end of the first with the A team breaking tackles and offloading to score more tries including one for Bobby Dhillon who ran in from at least 50 yards and one for Adam Lambert who was still upset after missing out in the first half. Kettering did finally get on the score sheet with a close range effort after some good forward play.

Overall a good display , one impressive part of play was the ability to get in support and offer options to the ball carrier, however, there are still some aspects to work on such as decision making and depth when in support.

Final Score 90 v 7
