Dunstable Vs A Team

Dunstable Vs A Team

Matt Armstrong10 Sep 2012 - 11:33

A team lose first league game.

The A team started off their league campaign with a tough away game at Dunstablians.

The chat pre-game had been about how we could avenge the defeat suffered at the end of the previous season which effectively prevented the A team from winning the title. It was certainly a mixed selection with a strong pack backed up by a constantly evolving backline which included Matt 'The Pace' Armstrong on one wing.

The first half saw the As on the back foot for quite a lot of it but there was some heroic defending along with some big hits being dished out. The A team only managed to venture twice into the Duns half and on one of these occassions Matt McPherson (second row) loitering on the wing caught the ball and raced in from 40 yards beating the cover. The half time score was 7v3 to the A team.

The second half started badly with the As conceding some sloppy tries to find our selves on the back foot and 17v7 down. However, the lads dug deep and through a series of plays, Shaun Mackie found himself bursting through a couple of tackles to score a try that the referee awarded even though there was a suspicion that he'd scored on the other pitch for Daventry! This meant that the score was back to 15v12. However, we feel asleep conceding a couple more tries leaving the final score to be 27v12.

All in all a tough first game against a strong Dunstablians team who deserved the victory.

A big thanks go to Joe 'Never Again' Staden who played on the wing and Harry Westaway who made his debut for the As.

Finally can we all ensure that we get to training this week as we really need to work on a few areas for improvement.
